Really laid back atmosphere serving cheap and well made tacos and an awesome selection of tequila. Our service was perfectly chill and competent, and I really really enjoyed the mexican salad offering for $7.50. This place understands how to do flavors. I highly recommend coming here for drinks and light fare outside one night.

Very yummy food and loved the atmosphere too! No wait when went there - I think it was on a Tuesday night in August.

Live music on a monday night which calls for a designation of Margarita Monday! There was not a wait which was nice. We had also called ahead to inform them that our party of 5 will be coming. You never really know what type of crowds can occur during this off peak season. The ambiance is quite delightful. I am not sure if they always have live music on monday but I'd suggest calling ahead to see what the happenings are. This is great for a crowd on vacation wanting to enjoy themselves. A little side note: this is not your complimentry chips and salsa kind of joint. Think gastropub-higher end bar food. What caught my eye was the pitcher of margarita. With this pitcher, you also get a side of grand marnier. It was a serious side to splash your individual glasses. Amazing! Street corn appetizer was really good. How could you butcher grilled corn? There was just the right amount of chili aioli that was drizzled. I wish there was more cotija cheese crumbles on top and it'd be nice to have paprika sprinkled on top as well. I had ordered the tacos trio and it was nice to see the varieties offered. I had the carne asada which was actual slices of steak cooked med rare. The tacos were a resemblance of what street tacos would look like. The pork belly taco was a resemblance of al pastor tacos. There was a bit more of pineapple in it than I would rather prefer. The grilled shrimp taco was my least favorite. It tasted as though it was tossed in seasoning salt/old bay, grilled, and set on a bed of chili aioli. I'm not a big fan of mayo anything and it's almost aways overdone. I'd much rather prefer some vinegar based cole slaw on top than the aioli. The mexican caesar salad was good. No frills. Leafy greens upon leafy greens is always a good sign. It was not overdressed and the perfect size to share among two people wanting a bit of fiber in the meal. Ask for a side of their in house salsa. They have a variety to choose from and its quite tasty especially if you like HOT. Their hottest salsa is smokey with hints of habanero that lingers after each bite. Overall, I would come back for sure. When ordering....I will be that person that will modify the set menu to my tastebuds.

We went to Holy Tequila last night for the first time. There was about a ten minute wait to get a table. The atmosphere is nice, nicely decorated. It took almost an hour to get our food. The margarita was only ok (seemed to get better as I was getting closer to the bottom, lol). When the food came out they were redeemed. The Thai chicken taco and the carne asada taco were delicious. The carnitas taco was only ok. The food tasted so good I was sure I would be back. However, on the ride home I started getting severe stomach pain. After multiple trips to the bathroom and 12 hours later my stomach is still loudly talking to me. I would have initially given the food a four star rating. However, the person with me would only give them two stars for their burritos and after a night in the bathroom I'm reducing my number of stars as well.

Food was delicious! I would definitely return to this place, however the service was not the best. The hostess placed us in the corner of an empty restaurant with a small table and a group of 5 people. Then, a group of 15 was placed right next to us. :) Our waitress was great and very attentive. The food is some of the best Mexican I've ever had and you must try this place, despite the lack luster service!

Had dinner there last night with the family. Food was very good, live entertainment, pleasant wait staff, and nice bar area. No wait on a Monday. Would certainly go back.

Great service. Fresh ingredients. The best service on the island. Love this place!! The margaritas were the best I have ever had. The hibiscus margarita was delicious, not too sweet. I also had a regular margarita and again, not disappointed. You don't taste those "fake" ingredients you get in other margaritas. I don't think I will ever order another one in a regular restaurant or bar. My husband ordered the deconstructed bean dip, I wasn't expecting to eat it but it was so good!! A MUST have appetizer!

If you are looking for a fun casual spot with a different twist this is a very good spot. The tacos were outstanding but the service was very slow....I think we had 3 different waiters. Not sure what was going on. Food is 4 stars

Great locally owned restaurant. Good food with fresh ingredients and reasonable prices. Great, friendly service. Will definitely go back on our next visit to HHI.

Great service! Food on the other hand not my favorite and the drinks were average. Great location though

Really cool place. It has a unique concrete poured bar. Lots of drink specials and special drinks. My wife had the Mexican Shandy which is a very strong drink with tequila with citrus flavors and Tecate beer added. It's actually 2 for 1 because they leave you with an entire can of Tecate. I had the Spicy Gin Fizz. Excellent drink! Think of it as an alcoholic version of a hot & spicy Fresca. Goes down very easily with some nice heat at the end. Served with a lime and a jalapeno pepper on a stirrer/straw. Would love to try their food next.

Pleasantly surprised by Holy Tequila. I had the grilled shrimp, pork belly, and carnitas tacos. All three were good with the Grilled Shrimp and Pork Belly being exceptional. I was blown away with the flavor combination of the grilled shrimp and looked forward to more. The crispy pork belly and accompanying sauce was fantastic. My wife ordered the chicken nachos which were excellent as well. Very pleased with our meal all the way around.

There street corn is awesome. The ambiance and decor is great! The service and staff is exceptional. We have eaten here a few times since they opened. In the beginning we always enjoyed our food, but lately the tacos and salads don't have the same luster as before.

I have never been treated so rudely in my life. Bartender had horrible attitude . We came in at 10:30 but she never bothered to tell us they closed at 11:00 and then got rude and flippant when we asked for a second drink. I will never go back-and will remember why I never go out in Hilton Head because this is the norm. They always act like they are doing you favor. Reminds me why I hate Hilfon Head. It's take it or leave it.

The choices are interesting and everything we tried was good! The restaurant is decorated very modern-lots of tequila decor and Mexican themed pieces. The hibiscus margarita was good and we had a great time!

Not a crazy standard, 4 page, Mexican menu, but the food is incredible. We're back for the second time this week and can't get enough of it. The apps are so good it's hard to choose how many you'll get. The taco sampler is a great option that lets you choose between their wide selection of tacos. The burritos are new to the menu and are so good. To finish off the night, the churros are the best I've ever had. I highly recommend Holy Tequila. The tequila isn't half bad either...

When we visit our timeshares in HH we rarely go out to eat but we broke that rule on Friday 2/20 (before we left HH for home). Found the name of the restaurant in one of the HH "places to go" publications and the name hooked us. They have Dos Equis Amber on draft so that gets a star all on its own. There's a electronic tablet ordering system on each table but the software/interface was impossible to use. Fortunately, our server was great and the tablet gimmick was just that. The chips and salsa sampler were very, very good as was the queso. We shared a steak quesadilla. I like (and my bride loves) a good quesadilla -- and this one was the best we've ever had. We're in HH three times a year and we'll be back for sure every visit!

Saw the ad for this new place and opted to try it out. It wasn't bad. I got the mojito and it was great. The food was okay. Not spectacular. A step up from Qdoba and Chipotle but not amazing. It was a good quality quesadilla at a reasonable price. I can't complain. The little game console thing on the table was pretty neat. We didn't try out the ordering or paying option, which I thought was cool, but the games were neat to play. If you were going for the drinks with a side of appetizers/tacos, I'd say you'd get your money's worth. The decor is pretty cool and service was good.

I know that most people come to Hilton Head ready to feast on seafood, but it is worth it to take break for Holy Tequila. I started with a hibiscus margarita, which was pretty to look and and refreshing without being too sweet. Chips and salsa do not come with the meal, but the salsa sampler was worth it. Honestly, they have so many things on the menu that I wanted to try, but I chose the taco salad and it did not disappoint. Everything about it was delicious, but the chicken on it was the star. My husband had the pulled pork tacos and my son the kids quesadilla. Everything was fresh and wonderful. We ended with churros and again, it was another delight. The open air seating and decor made for a great atmosphere and the service was outstanding. I consider Holy Tequila a must visit on Hilton Head.

A pure Mexican restaurant with a gourmet twist. Great service and delicious food helped to make a perfect Mexican night at the beach. The quesadilla was amazing, and the chips and queso was superb. Taco sampler (smoke chicken, veggie and shrimp tempura) received a thumbs up. The holy taco salad was a grown up version of the typical taco salad. Excellent all around. Will be back!

I heard from my friend while I was this was an up and coming restaurant with a 3-page feature in the Hilton Head magazine. So we decided to come out for dinner. I was first disappointed by the fact you have to order chips and salsa as an appetizer. It doesn't come with your food (unusual for a Mexican restaurant). I ordered the classics margarita. It was below expectations and didn't have the ability to compete with a margarita and any mom & pop tex-mex place. I ordered the burrito, my friends ordered the quesadilla and the street tacos. My burrito came wrapped in foil and with a side of chips. On presentation alone, I expected more for a sit-down restaurant (rice and beans, queso on top of the burrito). The actual burrito was not better than a chipotle burrito. Some parts of it were actually crunchy oddly enough. The flies were the worst part of the overall experience. My friend said the street tacos were amazing and I really enjoyed the musicians. In summary, they should stick to what they do best street tacos and Latin music.

Although they have only been open three weeks the quality of the food is fantastic. It's not the most extensive menu you ever saw but I promise it delivers. The three taco combination plate allows you to pick three very different tastes to accommodate a change of pace. We started with a pitcher of the house margaritas and the nacho plate. Both were so good we ordered a second. The taco of the day was a tempura shrimp with an Asian style slaw and jalapeños. It rocked. I also had the carne asada and a chorizo taco. Mike was our waiter and did a great job. We called ahead and were seated with a group of 11 within 10 minutes of arriving. This place will be jammed when they get some street cred in HHI. Go now!

We were told that they have only been open two months but would have never been able to tell based off of the food and service. We started with a pitcher of margaritas that were great. No margarita mix here, just lime juice, tequila and simple syrup. Next we ordered the salsa sampler. It is served with five salsa options that were all very flavorful. They have a good selection of mild, medium and hot. The taco sampler was a great option for dinner because you are able to choose which three tacos you would like (pulled pork, fried chicken and chorizo all wonderful). We also ordered a chicken quesadilla. You could really tell that all the ingredients were fresh. I would definitely visit again!

The flies swarming our table could be forgiven if the food were better. We spent most of our meal waving away flies (which our waitress commented was a recurring problem- with no other commentary on it). We were not told about any of the specials although the table next to is was. The queso was watery but not bad. My husband enjoyed the salad, but all of the meat in our tacos was fatty or hard. Gross. Service was adequate, but we will not be back.

I heard bad things about the service here so I had low expectations going in. Was actually quite please with the whole experience. All of their salsas on the salsa sampler were pretty good but the best, by far, was the habanero pineapple. My wife and I each bought the 3 tacos for $11 deal. We got six different tacos and split them in half, giving each of us six bites each. The fried chicken and the pulled pork were our favorites. The only one we didn't like was the vegetable. To kick them all up a notch, we added a bunch of that habanero pineapple salsa to each taco. We will be back.

Food was excellent & waiter, Mike, was very friendly & knowledgeable about the menu. Loved the salsas sampler and the poblano taco of the day!

Food okay to good although very limited. Premium Margaritas watery tasting and small - skip them. Salsa samples - really over priced and poor. Bet this place gone by Christmas if the lack of customers is any indication.

They should rename this place Holy Indigestion! Most Mexican places give you chips and salsa for the table, not here. They charge you 3,95 and the salsa tastes like tomato purée poured from a can with no seasoning. The tacos were bland and the shells were not even pan seared. I saw a citrus cole slaw on the menu that sounded good, but when it arrived it was old and soggy. I still tried it, but we had to ask for place settings first. I believe the owners also own Char Bar, which is a good burger place, but they should stick to burgers, because this place is not good.

If you want to drink tequila and have some mediocre food this is the place for you. The tacos barely supply two bites which would be fine if they were full of flavor. Asked for some hot salsa and got some medium to mild red sauce. My local Mexican restaurant back in rural NC makes guacamole that blows this away. If you want great Mexican food try any of the other places on the island. And btw the fish tacos at Big Bamboo are excellent.

Excellent place. I can't wait to go back! We made a call ahead reservation and were seated right when we arrived. The ambiance is tons of fun and the staff is very friendly. Our food was fabulous. My husband and I both did tacos. Our favorite was the fried shrimp taco with a citrus slaw and jalapeños. The roasted veggie was yummy as were all the others we tried. My mom got the chicken taco salad and it was wonderful. After we had paid our bill, the manager came and asked how dinner was and then offered us a sample Of the churros. We waited to try those and OMG they were out of this world delicious. I'm still thinking about them!!! Lol. My only complaint, which is really not a complaint, is that the margaritas were different and very strong. Our server explained to us that the margaritas were more like authentic ones so they did not have sour mix. Well, they were very different and if you do not like the taste of tequila and your looking for sweet you will not enjoy these. Go for specialty drinks. If you like tequila, get one of these!

Margaritas shy of good. Lacked flavor. Guacamole had nice presentation but also lacked flavor. Service ok, but had to ask for napkins. Didn't stay for dinner after drink experience.

I give them credit for trying to do something different in HHI. Think food truck tacos. Lots of choices. Our family ordered 5 different ones and they were all good. Only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars was the side dishes. They were good not great. We will go there again.

So apparently this place just opened. The place looks pretty nice inside and out and will probably have a great outdoor patio experience if it remains open. The food isn't good. From the overly strong margaritas to the barely edible chips and salsa, this was one of the worst Mexican cuisines I've had. They give you a bunch of different small cups of salsa for the salsa sampler. Oh Yeh... You have to pay for chips and salsa.. a pretty dumb concept for any Mexican place. Anyway, all of the salsas from the sampler were not good at all. And if you are able to choose one...They refill at no extra cost, but in this really small cup... so 1 chip for 3 ppl. They need to rethink that whole concept, especially the salsa flavors. You have to pay .50 extra for flour tortilla . Ok, whatever.. but at least serve a taco worth upgrading. 3.50-4.50 a taco with no kind of special if you order a certain amount... it's just silly. You don't stand out by doing that especially if the food is seriously subpar. This place will not make it for very long if they don't completely rethink their menu approach.

Great trendy atmospher, wish the food was tastier. The guac was limey and fresh. We had a tasting of tacos-the fish was over fried and the chicken was mostly dark meat. GOOD tacos were the veggie and shrimp. And the Margaritas were easy to sip :).

Best nachos EVER! Great tacos. The service was a little slow but friendly and the place was swamped. Don't miss this restaurant!!

Went here for lunch earlier in the week. The service was so-so but the food blew me away. We started with the guacamole which was so good. Very simple but just perfect. I opted for tacos. I got the Roasted Veggie taco (roasted brussels sprouts, pumpkin salsa, pumpkin seeds, chili aioli) and the Fried Chicken (big hunk of fried chicken with spicy pimiento cheese, collards and boiled peanuts). Phenomenal. Going again tomorrow just for that veggie taco. I also got a side of the bean and corn salad. It's lovely charred corn, black beans, cotija cheese in maybe a vinaigrette. Whatever, it was delicious. I'm anxious to try it again. I'm hopeful that the dinner service will be better and that they can keep up the good work with the food. Decor is way cool but I'm a sucker for a sugar skeleton. I suspect some of the 1 and 2 star reviews are people more accustomed to "Tex-Mex." This is NOT that. I wouldn't say it's totally authentic Mexican as it is more of a Mexi-fusion place.

Awesome nachos and street corn. Possibly the best I've ever had. For a relatively new place, Holy Tequila was great. Our waiter, Mike, was attentive and very welcoming. Great for large groups and families. This place will start becoming popular super fast, get in while you can!!

This is not your traditional Mexican. You will find many unique presentations. Everything seems to work. The food was very good. The drinks were very strong (and good). We visited on a quiet off-season night and found the service slow. We will return.

We went in with great anticipation. The menu has one item, tacos. The tacos although small were good. The sides were less than adequate. The menu needs to be expanded and the sides improved. With the other choices of Mexican restaurants on Hilton Head, we will not return.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
